Belgian exports tested for dioxins

EUROPEAN veterinary authorities have forced Belgium to agree to export only animal and animal products that have been tested for dioxins.

Belgium is making the agreement after a new scare about the cancer-causing chemical in which a further 180 pig and poultry farms were placed under quarantine.

This takes to more than 1000 the number of farms placed under restriction.

The decision was made after it emerged that Belgium wanted to buy back and destroy suspect pork and pork products containing more than 20% fat.
