Bed without dust

HEALTH and welfare – of both animals and humans – appears to be of increasing importance to the livestock industry.

Bradeley Green Engineering introduced its three-point linkage mounted Simp-Lay S-3001, which is designed to enable cubicles to be bedded down with sawdust without creating the dust clouds associated with blower machines.

Rather than an air stream, the spreader uses a hydraulically driven brush – from which the chain drive to the feed auger in the hopper bottom is taken – to spread the material up to a distance of 3m (10ft).

Metering is by a combination of tractor and hydraulic speed and the hoppers 0.75cu m capacity is considered to hold enough sawdust to bed about 100 cubicles. One man can bed down 50 animals in about five minutes, says the firm. &#42
