THE British Cattle Movement Service (BCMS) issued 120,666 passports and processed 26,520 notifications of cattle movements during its first fortnight of operation. The service started on Sept 28. The BCMS helpline, running since July 1, has dealt with more than 50,000 calls.
In a parliamentary written answer, junior farm minister Jeff Rooker added that passport production peaked on Oct 10, when 23,747 were issued. The busiest day for the helpline was Sept 29, with 1,914 calls received.
