Barhill high yields bring in top calls

BOCMS Barhill herd which averages 8500kg from twice-a-day milking – and with 20 cows on offer with yields at 9000-14,000kg – encourage confident bidding for top genetics last week.

Barhill Sunny Acacia, a cow by Sunny Boy, led the trade at 1350gns. She was classified VG87 and had twice exceeded 9500kg. She was due in December to type sire Haldrey Leadership and was claimed by Barrydale Ltd, Melton Mowbray who were the most active bidders taking 21 head.

Another high yielding Sunny Boy daughter, Barhill Sunny Lobelia GP84 realised 1320gns. She had a PIN £95 and had given over 13,000kg in her third lactation and was currently yielding an impressive 62.1kg in her fourth note. Buyer was Richard Ratcliffe for his Airway herd at Nantwich.

A two-month-old heifer calf out of the same cow made 380gns to Messrs Harrison from Yorks. Barrydale Ltd also paid 1020gns for a fresh third calver by Etazon Ferrari. (Wright-Manley)
