Australia expects record cotton crop
AUSTRALIA is expecting to harvest a record crop of cotton in the coming 1999- 2000 season, according to the US Department of Agricultures latest report on the sector.
The country is expecting a crop of 3.2 million 480-pound bales next season, against 3.1m bales in 1998-1999. Australia is the worlds third largest cotton exporter.
The USA, the worlds second-largest cotton grower, will produce 18.7m bales in 1999-2000, against 13.9m last time.
China, the biggest producer and consumer of cotton, will produce 19.5m bales in1999-2000.
