The UKs most northerly grown crop of soya, one of several trial sites, is harvested at the Hull familys Gibstick Farm, Winmarleigh, Garstang, Lancs. The 1.4ha (3.5 acre) crop was sown in early May and produced 27 square bales which will be fed to the farms Fortland herd of Holstein Friesians this winter. The crop was sown at the rate of 80 seeds/sq m, but the crop only podded at about 25% of its potential. Pre-harvest analysis was sugar 5.2%, DM 22%, protein 23.5% and D-value 74.
