Acquisition goes ahead

THE proposed £30m deal in which Milk Link will acquire over 600m litres of processing capacity from Express Dairies has been confirmed.

The move was announced on July 1 and has recently received approval from Express shareholders and Milk Links member council.

As a result, Milk Link has acquired all Expresss UHT milk business, which can process 195m litres of milk/year plus a further 420m litres of capacity through the creamery and ingredients business at Staplemead, Somerset.

Both companies will also launch a joint venture business focussing on added-value products, including flavoured milk.

The deal confirms Milk Link as a favoured supplier to Expresss south-east creameries alongside the processors own dedicated supply group, the Express Milk Partnership.

EMP recently announced restructuring plans to raise capital so its members could also benefit from investment in processing capacity. &#42
