2024 winners revealed

“Winning both the ‘Mixed Farmer of the Year’ and the overall ‘Farmer of the Year’ is a once-in-a-lifetime achievement and we feel honoured to have received these awards – it is recognition for the years of hard work we have put into growing our farming business and acknowledgement to our whole team for their daily hard work.

“If you are considering entering – do it, you have nothing to lose trying and if you are successful in getting down to the final three in a category, you will already be a winner and have a fantastic night to look forward to at the awards ceremony in London.

“The opportunities that the award presents are vast and after Craig winning the ‘Young Farmer of the Year’ in 2012, it opened doors to allow us to push on and build what we have today.”

Craig and Claire Grant, Farmer of the Year 2023

“What a fun evening on Thursday evening – a real celebration of British agriculture and great to catch up with friends.

“Being nominated for the FW awards has been a fun and rewarding experience – I would recommend others to enter and benchmark your business against others in your sector. The judges put us through our paces and we had to prove what we are doing as a business with economic, environmental and social evidence.”

Emma and James Loder-Symonds, Environmental Champion of the Year 2023

“Getting nominated was a nice recognition of the time and effort I put into helping my customers achieve their objectives. Finding out I was a finalist was very exciting and a great accolade. The award night itself was a fantastic evening for me, my family, colleagues and customers.

“The moment my name was read out is something that will stay with me for the rest of my life I’m sure. Honestly, it still feels surreal.”

Todd Jex, Arable Adviser of the Year 2023

“To get into the final three of the Farmers Weekly Poultry Farmer of the Year was an achievement in itself but to hear my name called out to win the award was a great honour and has to be the highlight of my long poultry career. We all had a fantastic time in London and I look forward to returning next year as a judge.”

Nigel Edwards, Poultry Farmer of the Year 2023

“The application process made me think hard about my farm, and reminded me how many system, infrastructure and business changes I had made over the last few years. Making the final three was a big surprise and the judges’ visit was a friendly but thought-provoking chat.

The awards night itself was as amazing as I had heard it would be. The venue was awesome and the gathering of inspiring people made it an unforgettable experience. I hope my success will encourage other farms my size to enter and it may inspire my teenage kids to continue in the family business for another 100+ years.”

Neil White, Arable Farmer of the Year 2023

It’s such a fantastic opportunity which gave us a platform to champion the benefits of livestock farming to a wider audience. This is especially important with everything that’s happening with British Farming.

The judging was one of our highlights and makes you really examine and justify every aspect of your business, which in turn pushes you to strive for excellence.

David and Cora Cooper, Sheep Farmer of the Year 2023
