WRECKERS YARD: Vintage moment with a pea viner in Fife

Remember the decade that brought us platform shoes, glam rock and nylon shirts? Remember a time when you had to collect your photos from the chemist and they were square, rather than rectangular?
If you need a reminder, there’s a new set of pictures on the Wreckers’ Yard gallery that should transport you right back to those days.
Submitted by a reader, and taken back in 1977, they show efforts to free a number of pea viners from a particularly peaty field near Balmullo in north east Fife.
“We managed to get five of our 10 Mather+Platt MX trailed viners bogged in one frantic 10 minute period,” he said.
“It required heavy lifting and winching gear and as I recall it took three days to get them all out.”
