Updated: Case IH tractor dealer Collings Bros to market Soucy track systems – VIDEO & PICTURES

Soucy tracks are being marketed by Cambs-based Collings Brothers which has fitted 32-inch rear tracks and 25-inch units to the front of its Case IH Puma 180 demo tractor.

The system is claimed to increase traction by more than 300%. In fact, the Canadian manufacturer says fitting the tracks is equivalent to having eight standard tyres on the rear axle and six on the front.

Compaction is also reduced, with the ground pressure for a 7.3t tractor falling from 7.6psi on tyres to just 2.3psi on Soucy tracks – less than that produced by someone on foot.

Compared with twin-track machines that slew the tracks to turn, the four-track Soucy system doesn’t scuff the ground when it turns. The turning circle is said to be the same as an equivalent tractor on wheels.

No modifications are required to fit the tracks so, when cultivation work is finished, the tractor can swap back to standard wheels allowing it to be used throughout the year for other tasks.

The system can be bought on its own to fit most makes and models. A set for tractors from 140hp – 180hp will cost between £34,000 and £35,000 and prices for machines over 180hp start from £37,500.

As an example, a new Case IH Puma 180 fitted with the Soucy tracks (supplied with its standard wheels as well) will retail for £90,000, while the more powerful Case IH Magnum 310 will cost about £112,000 with both tracks and wheels.

Because the system has been approved by all tractor manufacturers, there are no warranty implications to fitting Soucy tracks.
