UK’s bestselling tractor brands revealed
Despite a turbulent year in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, lockdowns, and global supply chain troubles, John Deere has proven unshakeable in its hold of the UK tractor market.
Sitting at the top for more than two decades, the American manufacturer once again managed to outsell rival brands, with data from the Agricultural Engineers Association (AEA) showing its 25.3% market share – equating to 3,558 units sold in 2021.
The figures show market share percentages and total sales, but are a year behind other recent data as the AEA must comply with the EU’s stringent competition law, which prevents the data being published until a whole 12 months have passed.
In spite of John Deere’s individual hold, it is the CNH group, which owns New Holland and Case IH, that has taken the largest overall share at 28.7%, held up largely by New Holland sales of 2,682 units.

Overall, new tractor registrations in 2021 were well up on the previous year, coming in at 14,071 compared to 10,380 in 2020, though this will have been skewed by the supply chain disruption caused by the pandemic.
More recent data for 2022 put last year’s total tractor registrations at 12,017.
