Case IH has extended its bog-standard Farmall A range with a brace of more powerful models sporting freshened-up four-pillar cabs.

The 90A and 100A (bonnet numbers indicate horsepower) are designed to be more versatile than the 55A, 65A and 75A.

Although they are roughly double the price, the extra output will be useful for a broader range of tasks on livestock and mixed farms.

And they’re still up to £10,000 cheaper than the Farmall 90C and 100C, which have the same powertrain.

Propulsion comes by way of FPT’s latest four-cylinder, 3.6-litre F5 oil-burner that serves up 380Nm (90A) and 450Nm (100A) at 1,300rpm.

This is a significant rise on the existing models, which run smaller three-cylinder, 2.9-litre engines.

The fuel tank has also grown, to 130 litres, and the service interval has been extended to 600 hours.

Emissions are stifled to Stage 5 standards by CNH’s Compact Hi-eSCR2 system.

The system features sub-10% exhaust gas recirculation combined with a diesel oxidation catalyst, particulate filter and a squirt of AdBlue.

This paraphernalia is hidden under the bonnet and away from the loader mounting points.

Power runs through a three-range, four-gear mechanical transmission on the basic models, or with a hydraulically actuated Powershuttle on fancier variants.

A 20×20 creeper transmission option is also available.

Maximum lift on the rear linkage is 4.4t and the tractors come with three pto speeds as standard – 540, 540E and 1,000. 

Options include a front linkage that is good for 1.4t, a front 1,000-speed pto and an “extra flow” open-centre pump that can provide 82 litres/min to quicken loader cycle times and hydraulic performance through the three rear spools.

Both new Farmall A models can be fitted with loader-ready brackets and hydraulics from the factory.

Case recommends pairing them with an L3815A, which has a lift height of up to 3.8m and a maximum capacity of 1,922kg.

Highlights of the new four-pillar, flat-floored cab include more space, air-conditioning as standard, and modest sound levels, plus an air-suspended seat, USB socket and phone holder.

List prices are £57,789 for a 90A or £60,589 for the 100A; opting for the fancier transmission ups those figurers by about £3,500.
