Lamma 2025: MX develops GDT conveyor bucket for grass silage

French firm MX has launched a feeding bucket specifically designed to handle long-chop clamped grass.

While its existing auger-based setup works effectively for maize-based rations, getting a thorough mix and smooth discharge with grass silage tends to be more challenging.

But that’s apparently not the case with the new GDT, where a 700mm-wide chain-and-slat conveyor and horizontal agitator replace the auger.

Buckets are available with capacities of 2,050-, 2,350- and 2,550 litres, with a discharge door on the left, the right, or both.

And buyers can pick either a simple tine grab if they tend to be scooping up a pre-mixed ration, or a 415mm-diameter powered knife rotor to carve silage from a pit face.

A fourth hydraulic service is required to power all the moving parts.

But given few will have this facility, MX provides an electronically controlled valve on the bucket to switch the oil flow between the conveyor and door – which are on the same circuit – and the rotor or grab.

Prices start at £14,000 for the smallest bucket and grab; it’s £21,495 for the biggest one with a rotor.
