Cereals 2022: Amazone sprayers to get direct injection option

A novel product from Amazone gives farmers the option of injecting an additional chemical into the spray line in certain parts of the field.

This allows problem patches of weeds to be treated with a different chemical or stronger mix, without having to make another pass.

The Direct Inject system consists of a separate 50-litre tank with its own metering system, pump and set of pipework running to the boom.

Rather than putting a mix together, the tank is filled with neat chemical which is then piped to the boom and blended with the contents from the main tank. Contamination is avoided by stopping circulation whenever the Direct Inject system is activated and applying the product through a second line.

To make sure reaction times are fast, minimal pipework has been used to get the product to the nozzles. This means operators have time to see problem weeds and activate the system before they have passed the boom.

Because the system works with undiluted chemical, excess product can be drained back into the original container at the end of the job. The entire system can also be cleaned automatically at the press of a button in the tractor cab.

Direct Inject is going through the final testing stages, and it should be available to spec on the firm’s range of single-axle UX01 sprayers next year. Prices are yet to be announced.
