New prototype high-hp Axion from Claas

Claas took the wraps of its latest prototype, the high hp Axion 9XX. Available from next spring, the 900 range will bridge the current gap in the firms offering of standard tractors from 280 to 400hp.

Pre-production machines have been coming off the lines at the company’s Les Mans factory since early 2010 and one has already been at work in the UK for evaluation.

Although Claas were cautious to outline the final details, it did confirm that the four model series would use an FPT 8.7-litre Cursor 9 engine fitted with integrated SCR to meet Tier 4 Interim (Stage IIIB) emissions legislation.

All four will feature the latest Ecom 3.0 CVT transmission. In addition, they will have front and cab suspension and be available in 40k and 50k variants.

The 900s will get the CMOTION multi-function joystick, which is already used in the new Xerion models, and there will also be a full-colour CEBIS terminal integrated into the new armrest.

Operator comfort has been made a priority, says Claas, and the new range will boast a new four-pillar cab designed with help from car specialists.

The model shown to crowds at SIMA had 710/60R34s on the front and 900/60R42s on the rear and the company added that the 3.15m wheelbase will make for better power transfer. Rear lift will be 11t, while at the front the Axion will be able to cope with 6.5t when fitted with an integrated front linkage.
