LAMMA 2012: Weedingtech innovates with Foamstream

Weedingtech foamstream

One of the most innovative techniques at the show was Weedingtech’s Foamstream system for killing weeds.

Aimed mainly at organic veg growers, it uses a mix of boiling water, steam and a foaming agent made from OSR, potato, wheat and maize.

It’s applied to weeds through a boom at a rate of up to10 litres/hour at a tractor forward speed of about 3kph.

Three heaters run by an 80kVA pto-mounted generator heat the water and NIAB trials showed a 100% success rate in killing weeds.

The system means that herbicide use and the need for expensive hand-weeding can be drastically cut.
