Agritechnica 2023: Novel Case-IH radar matches combine speed to crop density

Two odd-looking antennas adorn the regular header of Case IH’s latest Axial Flow 7160 combine on show at Agritechnica.
These parasol-like frames loop over the reel and, at their tips, carry radars capable of monitoring the density of the approaching crop.

The information they collect is used to regulate the machine’s forward speed, matching it with the expected volume of material to maintain consistent threshing performance without risking a blockage.
The Advanced Feedrate Control system differs from most others on the market, which tend to adjust threshing settings after the crop has entered the combine.
