New mid-sized Torions to join Claas loader line-up

A trio of mid-sized loaders will join the Claas Torion line-up from 2023.

Filling a gap in the range, the new models replicate the updates made to the flagship 1913 and 2014 machines last year, which gained more power, reach and lift capacities.

The three “medium” Torions – the 1285, 1611 and 1611 P – follow in a similar vein, replacing their predecessors with more powerful engines and larger drive pumps and hydrostats for faster cycle times.

The 1285 variant develops 157hp, and supersedes the previous 1177 (137hp) and 1410 (165hp).

Meanwhile, the Torion 1611 has an additional 23hp compared to the outgoing 1511, taking it to 207hp, and output of the 1611 P is up 45hp, to 252hp.

Lifting power has been improved lower down the arc to allow the use larger buckets and heavier bale grabs.

A high-lift mast can also be fitted and, depending on which model is selected, the bucket pivot points are between 3.85m and 4.52m – an increase of 520-580mm.

Claas has reinforced the front end of the new loaders to absorb the higher lifting forces, particularly on the lift arms and cross-tube.

The axles on the 1611 and 1611P variants have also been strengthened, which accounts for weight increases to 15,810kg and 15,200kg, respectively. The smallest of the mid-range models, the Torion 1285, tips the scales at 13,570kg.

Despite their added bulk, fuel consumption has been reduced thanks in part to a three-mode driving system.

For road travel in driving range three, only one of the engine’s piston pumps is used as part of the firm’s “smart roading” function, which reduces diesel use by lowering the engine speed to 1,600rpm for 40kph with the Torion 1611 P.
