Automatic side-shift added to KV’s flagship butterfly mowers

Kverneland’s new 55100MT Vario butterfly mower will come with a nifty side-shift function that should avoid missing strips of grass on headland curves.

CurvePilot will automatically shunt both rear beds sidewards by up to 400mm as the tractor is steered through sweeping bends and around obstacles, ensuring there’s no gap between them and the front-mounted mower.

Rather than relying on a GPS input or autosteer integration, the system simply uses a gyroscope to detect any change in the host vehicle’s steering angle.

This ensures operators can maximise the working width, rather than having to heavily overlap to compensate for turns.

The mower itself is also new, with the 9.8-10.2m 55100MT Vario taking over from the outgoing 53100MT Vario.

Most of the features have been carried across, including the contour-following QuattroLink suspension system for the nine-disc beds.

Behind them come semi-swing steel tine conditioners complete with front and rear hood adjustment to match intensity to crop volume.

There’s also the option of retrofitting the firm’s BX swath groupers, with quick-release couplings allowing them to be attached or removed in a few minutes.
