Simpler specs and more compact dimensions characterise the latest Strautmann mixed ration diet feeders.

The new Professional models in the Verti-Mix feeder range are not available with the full suite of control, recording and other digital technologies reserved for the Expert models, but they can still be fitted with a three-point weighing system to help load a ration with the correct quantities of ingredients.

Producers with small yards and buildings that are awkward to access are catered for by a front-end redesign reckoned to make the mixers a tad more manoeuvrable thanks to a shorter drawbar and reconfigured driveline guarding.

The 7.5cu m Pro VM 75 single-auger mixer, for example, is 61cm or 11% shorter, at 4.69m, than its Expert range counterpart, the VM951, while maintaining the same overall width.

Similarly, the largest single-auger model, the 14.5cu m VM 145, is just as wide as the equivalent VM 1401 but 76cm or 13% shorter.

Unchanged auger

Tech specs may be reduced but the Pro machines still feature the manufacturer’s signature mixing auger composition, with stepped flights designed to encourage a tumbling action as forage and other ingredients are stirred.

An adjustable scraper blade on the leading edge of the auger enables fine ingredients to be scooped up from the tub floor, and a root knife can be added to crush fodder beet, potatoes and so on.

The tub’s side discharge doors have been cut 100mm wider for improved fodder flow and options include a rear-mounted cross-conveyor.

There are six sizes of single-auger mixers ranging from 7.5 to 14.5cu m priced £27,379 to £33,585, and four double-auger machines from 11.5 to 24.5cu m at £40,003 to £52,642.

A rear-mounted cross-conveyor (with the option to delete the front discharge door) adds £2,468 to £2,787 in all cases.

For comparison, a feature-laden XC Expert starts off at £31,123 for the 7.5cu m VM951, while the 14cu m VM1401 lists at £38,505.
