Murska develops new 40t/hour hammer mill

Finnish manufacturer Murska has launched a new hammer mill designed to finely crimp grain for livestock rations.

Outputs range from 25 to 40t/hour for dry or slightly moist material, depending on the desired coarseness of the end product.

Up top, there’s a 3.6m-wide, 5,600-litre main tank, the lip of which sits 3.2m high to put it comfortably within reach of most loaders.

This feeds an 800mm-diameter, 400mm-wide rotor, which can be swivelled through 180deg to extend its service life as it wears. Similarly, the hammers can be turned up to four times prior to replacement.

Discharge options include a belt conveyor with a maximum unloading height of 3.3m, and a tube bagger that stuffs the material straight into an airtight plastic sausage.

Manual settings include the hydraulic adjustment of grain throughput, and the choice of several sieves that slot into a four-section frame.

Extra options

Buyers can also spec a 7in touchscreen as part of Murska’s “data control” package, which allows elements of the job to be automated.

This will tweak the dosing of preservatives or additives based on grain moisture content to maintain consistency, and adjust the flow of material according to variations in pto speed.

It will also stop the grain supply and alert operators if there’s a problem, and provide a final report detailing the total volume of grain processed and the quantity of additive used.

Other optional extras include a container stand for two 1,000-litre IBCs, air brakes on the firm’s trailer unit, and an automatic lubrication system.

As hammer mills tend to be power-hungry, Murska suggests pairing it with a tractor of 270-335hp.
