A new battery-powered landscaping tool is hoping to give established institutions such as Stihl and Husqvarna a run for their money.

Cramer hails from Sweden and offers a range of equipment from chainsaws to zero-turn mowers, all of which are aimed at professional operators.

To this end, it’s opted for a gutsy 82V system that’s more than double the output offered by many rivals.

The firm says it has done this to generate higher torque from its brushless motors and achieve longer run times from its battery packs.

These come in either a slot-in format that runs from 2.5Ah to 8Ah, or a chunky 12Ah backpack that offers hours of continuous run time for many tools.

Sitting atop the chainsaw line-up is the 3.4kW CR82CS34, which is said to offer power equivalent to that of a 60cc two-stroke saw.

As standard, it comes with a 15in Oregon bar, but it can be fitted with an 18in version if the buyer desires.

The saw is rated to IX4 waterproofing standards, so that it can be used in the rain, and it has a variable trigger that can deliver chain speeds of up to 24m/sec.

Teaming it with an 8Ah battery can give more than 40min of continuous cutting, while the backpack system offers outputs of up to 80min. However, strenuous work will reduce these times considerably.

The retail price of the bare tool is £350 and an 8Ah battery pack costs about the same.

Like all Cramer equipment, the saw comes with a two-year commercial warranty and the battery packs have a 10-year guarantee.  

The Cramer brand is owned by Globe Group, which also makes Greenworks tools. It offers lower-voltage ranges to suit domestic users, but also has an 82V professional line-up that is the same as Cramer’s.
