Makita 40V battery microwave provides hot in-field snacking
For anyone who finds themselves hankering after a piping-hot lasagne in the middle of nowhere, Makita has come up with a solution – a battery-powered microwave.
The MW001GZ oven is the latest in a run of cordless catering products from the Japanese firm that includes a coffee machine, kettle and fridge, bringing it one step closer to offering a fully fledged off-grid kitchen.
Power is provided by two of the firm’s 40VMax XGT battery packs and its eight-litre capacity is large enough to accommodate most microwave containers.
Users get the option of two output settings – 350W or 500W – with the latter offering a continuous run time of up to 37min when fitted with two BL4080F batteries.

As it is intended to be used in tough working environments, the oven is water and dust resistant and has a strong tempered glass door.
It also comes with a carry handle and shoulder strap, plus a USB port for charging devices such as mobile phones.
It can be purchased online for about £585 excluding VAT, but buyers will need to factor in the cost of batteries and a charger if they don’t already have them.
