Stihl MS400.1 chainsaw gets better balance and lower weight

Stihl has revamped its popular MS400C-M forestry chainsaw, making it 300g lighter while retaining a similar power output of 5.2hp.

According to the German maker, this gives the new 5.5kg MS400.1 C-M the highest power-to-weight ratio of any professional chainsaw on the market.

It’s also more compact, better balanced and has a lower centre of gravity, all of which should ease handling.

As with its predecessor, recommended bar sizes are 16, 18 and 20in, and the engine runs lightweight magnesium pistons for rapid acceleration.

It also features M-Tronic engine management, which automatically regulates ignition timing and fuel supply to give the best performance for the conditions in which the saw is working.
