Lightweight SoloTrak post knocker suitable for 4×4 towing

By putting its tracked fencing rig on a severe weight loss regime, Yorkshire-based Solo Fencing Systems has created a tool that’s light enough to be towed on the road behind a regular 4×4.

Dubbed the SoloTrak T-series, it packs a high-spec telescopic post driver, hole-borer, rock spike and a front tool carrier into a package that weighs just 2.9t – the only caveat being that the 300kg hammer weight is removed and put in the towing vehicle.

Starting out with a Japanese-built Canycom S300 tracked dumper, company owner Simon Dale jettisons the tipping tub and weighty operator station.

Controls are then repositioned at the rear of the machine, next to those that operate the knocker, thus converting it into a walk-behind machine.

Improved visibility

Also attached to this bank of switchgear is a screen displaying a feed from a camera mounted at the front of the machine.

This gives a clear view of the hydraulic implement carrier – sporting a Bobcat skid-steer headstock – so that attachments can be picked up and dropped off with ease.

Some of the tools on offer include a wire unroller/strainer, a four-way dozer blade and a post carrier.

As for the post driver itself, this comes fully loaded with a 200deg slew, tilt ram and side shift, and a telescopic mast with pulley system to give speedy cycle times.

The lack of an operator station and dumper tub also means there’s plenty of storage space for tools and supplies.

Prices vary according to specification, with the high-spec model pictured commanding circa £70,000.
