Dual-battery Milwaukee chainsaw rivals petrol for power

Milwaukee has expanded its range of cordless forestry tools to include a dual-battery chainsaw running a 48cm/20in bar.

It runs on 18V batteries, like the rest of the firm’s tools.

However, for best results it needs to be teamed with the latest high-output Forge packs, which come in 8Ah and 12Ah formats.

It needs two of these to function, which means 36V is sent to the brushless Powerstate motor.

In return, this delivers a max torque of 9.5Nm and chain speed of up to 14.3m/sec, giving it cutting speeds to rival some fairly serious petrol saws.

With a pair of 8Ah Forge packs fitted, estimated output on a single charge is 25 cuts in 38cm hardwood.

Trusted supplier Oregon provides the bar and chain, which has a 0.325 gauge and 1.3mm pitch.

Prices will be announced when the saw goes on sale at the end of October.
