Kuhn semi-mounted ploughs get traction bolt leg protection

A lower cost and lighter weight solution to protecting the legs and mouldboard assemblies of Kuhn Vari-Leader semi-mounted ploughs has been introduced in the form of a proven traction bolt mechanism.
Already available on a number of Kuhn plough models, traction bolt break-back is offered as an alternative to the non-stop hydraulic system currently available on the six- to eight-furrow implements, which cater for tractors of 135-360hp.

Unlike a shear-bolt, which can become lodged in the plough framework after it is sheared under pressure from the point striking a large stone or other obstacle, the traction bolt is subjected to a linear force before it gives way.
A load on the share point of at least 4,700kg triggers the bolt’s structural failure, allowing the leg to pivot back and minimise potential damage to components.
Kuhn recommends it for growers on light soils with a low stone content.
