Kuhn revamps 4-8m Espro cultivator seed drills

A straight disc option for Kuhn Espro cultivator drills provides a moisture- and power-saving alternative to the 460mm scallop-edge concave discs fitted as standard.

While the current fitment completes seedbed preparation with an aggressive chopping and mixing action, the flat discs run straight in-line with the seed coulters and cause minimal soil movement.

The Espro is designed to work on stubbles, after initial cultivation and on ploughed ground, deploying two gangs of discs behind either a row of paddle levelling tines or a single-row tyre packer.

Discs are carried on rubber-cushioned trailing arms and are followed by a mid-mounted packer comprising a row of 900mm diameter, 210mm wide tyres in a staggered formation.

Twin-disc openers on trailing arms, along with a depth/press wheel, complete the array of tools; fertiliser on combo versions is either mixed with the seed or placed from a separate toolbar.

Size options

Kuhn produces the Espro in 3m and 4m rigid sizes, and 4m, 6m and 8m with a centre-split folding frame. Seed and fertiliser versions of the 4m and 6m folding models have a larger hopper.

Engineers have managed to extract 700kg of weight from the 6m Espro 6002 R seed-only drill, making the latest version lighter on the land and on the tractor’s fuel consumption.

All models from 3m to 6m also have a new full-length platform that saves the operator from having to reach over to split seed and fertiliser bags, while making it easier to see into all corners of the hopper.

In addition, one half of the frame on folding versions can be raised so that loaders can get in closer when filling, and the new tank cover has an automatic winding and locking system.
