Horsch drills offer direct tine seeding in compact package
Horsch has been on a mission to shrink its large-scale Sprinter NT tine drill into a package that’s more suitable for UK farming.
The fruits of these labours are the new 12m trailed 12.25 SC and 6m mounted 6.25 SL, both of which feature 25cm row spacings and fold neatly to 3m for road transport.

They also come with the option of three coulters: a low-disturbance 12mm tine designed to move as little soil as possible, a 21mm option that’s supposedly ideal for sowing catch and cover crops directly into stubbles, and a 110mm coulter that spreads the seed in a band.
In all cases, the tines are hydraulically pre-stressed to give them extra strength and allow coulter pressure to be cranked up to 180kg.
They also have individual depth control, a press wheel and plenty of under-chassis clearance so that they don’t block when direct or mulch seeding.
The trailed Sprinter 12.25 SC works on the same principle as the big NT, re-engineered to fit on a more compact chassis.
Seed is stored in a 6,300-litre double hopper, but it will soon be available with the option of a triple tank, and with an additional MiniDrill small seeds applicator.
With the mounted 6.25 SL, Horsch has tried to cater for the needs of smaller farms and those forced to work in wetter conditions.
To this end, the lightweight drill mounts on the rear linkage and is teamed with a Partner 1600 or 2000 front tank, which the firm says makes it well balanced and manoeuvrable.
Sales of pre-series Sprinter SL and SC machines will start this year.
