Rocking a name like Directo, it’s clear that the latest drill from Czech outfit Bednar is intended to work straight into uncultivated ground.

The tools enabling it to do this are a set of angled disc coulters with gauge wheels on the sides and a notched closing wheel at the rear, making it similar in configuration to Horizon’s DSX drill.

These can exert up to 250kg of coulter pressure to help them penetrate hard ground, and they’re staggered over two rows, giving a 167mm crop spacing.

Coulters are fed from a double-chamber, 5,000-litre pressurised seed hopper, which comes with the option of a filling auger.

In standard form, these send both products to all coulters, but buyers can spec an additional row of units, allowing fertiliser to be placed below the seed.

Running gear for the 6m machine includes a hydraulic drawbar, wide flotation tyres at the rear and a pair of support wheels at the front for keeping it stable during work.

Additional features include a separate Alpha Drill applicator mounted at the back of the machine and the option of adding ballast to help the coulters penetrate particularly tough soils.

The drill can be run via isobus or the firm’s own touchscreen display.
