Amazone launches new 6m Citan

Amazone has launched a new Citan soilo seed drill, with a 3,000 litre tank capacity and a 6m working width.

The Citan is designed for farms which adopt a split sowing system – cultivating seperately from drilling. Previously, the Citan was only available in 8m, 9m and 12mm widths.

Forward speeds of 20km/h are possible, and Amazone says that generally work rates for the Citan are about one hectare per hour for each metre of working width. Fuel tests done by the DLG suggest that fuel consumption is 2.8 litres/ha and the machine takes around 25hp/metre to pull.

It’s fitted with Amazone’s RoTec Control coulters which can exert up to 55kg and also gets new depth guidance rollers to keep drilling depths constant. These can be followed by the Exact Harrow or a Roller harrow, depending on the finish desired.

Amazone reckons that split sowing machines are becoming more popular due to restricted time windows for getting crops such as oilseed rape and wheat in, and that the Citan can work in both dry and wet conditions given the low overall weight of the machine.
