Agromek: Delaval robotic teat cleaner
Swedish firm Delaval used the Agromek show to demonstrate its latest robotic brainwave that it says will take care of another of the more mundane tasks in the milking process.
Powered by mains electricity, the robotic teat cleaner is designed to work as a standalone system and should fit most rotary parlours. A water supply and a source of compressed air are needed to keep the sensing camera clean and droplets off the lens. The frequency of the cleaning process can be adjusted but the Swedish company suggests every other cow is often enough.
Blocks mounted on the parlour floor keep the cows’ legs apart (which will also help with milking) and Delaval says the accuracy of the three nozzles should reduce the quantity of spray used. At top speed the robot can spray an udder every nine seconds or 400 cows per hour.
The system is expected to be launched in spring next year.
