Agritechnica 2011: Fortschritt baler

A bit of a blast from the past, Fortschritt is back. Perhaps best known for its combines and headers in the UK, the East German company disappeared in the early 1990s shortly after the collapse of the Iron Curtain.

Now though, the name has been revived and, having been in operation for less than one year, the new owners are busy churning out cultivation kit and these unusual conventional balers.

The pedigree is strong â€“ over 150,000 of the previous model were sold. With a 2.35m pick-up this latest version has apparently been beefed up to deal with the hefty swaths dropped behind today’s bigger combines.

The strange scorpion sting-style bale chute means bales can be transferred directly to a trailer running alongside.
