Kent importer brings rugged Land Cruiser 70-series to UK
Designed to transport people and goods to some of the most inhospitable places on earth, and get them back again, Toyota’s tough-yet-basic Land Cruiser 70-series trucks are built to last.
They make for durable work vehicles as a result, but, as most of the UK is fairly hospitable, they aren’t officially available to buy here new.
That’s where firms like Classics and Cruisers come in. The Kent-based outfit specialises in importing tidy, second-hand single- and double-cab pickups from South Africa which, crucially, are all right-hand drive.

To comply with the rules, these need to be at least 10 years old. However, the fact that they source vehicles from dry central areas of the country, and they are virtually mechanically indestructible, means they have decades of life left in them.
Engines are either a 4.5-litre V8 or 4.2-litre straight-six (both diesels), with the latter affectionately dubbed the one-million-kilometre engine, such is its durability.
These are allied to five-speed manual transmissions with a simple transfer box for switching between two- and four-wheel drive and high and low ranges.
Prices for tidy examples on modest mileage start at about £25,000.
