Northumberland farmer George Anderson is one man who isn’t going to be worrying about the weather this winter.

He has just finished constructing an off-road vehicle from a combination of old Volvo personnel carrier and Defender 90.

First he removed all the bodywork from the ex-Swedish Army Volvo and built a trailer body on to the rear-driven section. Then he did the same on the front driving section.

All the bodywork and the engine were removed to allow him to fit new channel rails to carry the Defender. He then removed the axles and modified the chassis before connecting the Defender’s drive shafts and power steering.

The newly constructed vehicle will be used to feed sheep in winter on the family’s upland farm at Cambo, Morpeth, and he reckons the new machine will allow feed to be taken up the hills even in the worst of weather.
