Youngstock dispersal hit a flying trade with 21 over £2,000
Bidding peaked at 2,050gns for three in-calf heifers from the Thameshead herd’s youngstock Holstein dispersal at Exeter Livestock Centre, Devon on behalf of Kemble Farms, Cirencester.
First at this money was Thamshead Spooky Yvette, sired by Huddlestone Spooky. Her calf, sired by Woodmarsh Metalic, is due in September. She sold to HM Prison Service of Monmouthshire, who also secured Thameshead Twist Dana 37, sired by Cogent Twist and due in September to sexed semen from Goldmine. Also joining the same herd at 2,050gns was Thameshead Shottle Mary 67 by Picston Shottle, she is due to calve in September to Bakombre.
In-calf heifers due to calve November to December topped at 1,800gns, regularly selling between 1,400gns and 1,600gns.
A group of bulling heifers were knocked down to 1,280gns by Fustead Altasomoa and Goldmine, these sold to Tony Baker, Cullompton. Another group by Cogent Twist sold at 1,200gns to Mr WB Jones, Carmarthen.
Yearling heifers sold to 1,020gns for July born heifers sired by Joylan Specialist and Cogent Twist. Buyers Messrs GJ Farms, Wiltshire secured 36 head.
Averages: 188 in-calf heifers, £1,691; 104 bulling heifers, £1,056; 156 yearling heifers, £804; 171 heifer calves, £448; 619 head, £1,017.
