Wexham cup winner makes 5,200gns at Beeston
The Western Holstein Club’s annual Wexham Cup show and sale of pedigree Holstein bulls peaked at 5,200gns.
Sale leader was the cup winner Wintersell Millicio, from John Downing, Edenbridge, Kent. Millicio is a son of Bertaiola Mincio and out Wintersell Mila 10th who has already bred eight EX/VG daughters. Buyer was the Steve Cox, Stafford.
The Downing Partnership also took the day’s second best price of 5,000gns for Wintersell Magnifico. Buyer was George Sanderson, Blackleach Preston.
Selling for 3,100gns was Lilleshall Superstition from Philip Gilman, Lilleshall, Newport. His son of Charlesdale Superstition bred from five generations of high scoring members of the Ashlyn family. This bull with a complete outcross pedigree was the choice of L Hadfield and Sons, Buxton.
Winning the reserve championship under judge Paul Westaway was Woodmarsh Zumero from M and JC Gould, Bomere Heath, Shrewsbury. Zumero is a son of Amighetti Numero Uno and is out of Woodmarsh Goldwyn Zandra. Buyer was Derek Pyle, Exeter, Devon.
Two more bulls made 3,000gns, including another Woodmarsh consignment in the form of Woodmarsh Leaton, sired by Jeeves and from the renowned Lyme family. Buyer was Robert and Wendy Hayes, Chesterfield, Dervyshire.
Second at this money was Richard Pilkington’s Aintree Dominant Red, by the homebred Aintree Rancher Red. He sold to DA Morris of St.Clears, Carmarthenshire.
