Wortwell Holstein dispersal tops at 2500gns

The Wortwell Holstein herd dispersal at Bristol Sales centre this week saw some 41 buyers in action from 17 different counties and saw a top price of 2500gns.

Sale leader was Wortwell Faber Mona, a sixth lactation female giving 54 litres a day. She sold to Philip smith’s Wigboro herd, Clacton. Buyer of nine females on the day he also took home the 2400gns Wortwell Justice Mona, a VG-85 female.

Daughters of Wortwell Jet also stood out, with a top of 2350gns and an average of ÂŁ1700 a piece. The only working age bull in the sale was Wortwell Harry, a Shottle son out of a Shaker dam, which sold for 2080gns to Fred Simcock, Ledbury, who along with his son, took some 41 head back to Herefordshire.

Marlborough-based Stwoell farms were on good form when it came to bidding on Youngstock, claiming 28 heifers for their Goldenball herd, including the top priced heifer calf at foot, Wortwell Shottle Milly 2, who sold for 900gns.

Averages: 143 cows and calved heifers ÂŁ1404; 27 served heifers ÂŁ1431; 39 maiden heifers ÂŁ1008 (Norton and Brooksbank with Gwilym Richards and Co).
