Welshpool Charolais sell to 8300gns top
Commercial calf producers were busy spending their income from recent suckled calf sales at Welshpool last week when Charolais sold to a top price of 8300gns at the town’s new market.
Leading the trade was Pedr Dougal from Peter Howells, Llanbyther. This one is by 16,000gns sire Blelack Tycoon and out of a homebred cow which goes back to Gwenog Ivory, dam of 31,000gns Pedr Thumper. Buying this one was Wyn Ashton for his 200-cow commercial herd at Cefn Coch.
Then at 7500gns was Dorcas Danzig from George and Claire Moriss. This Blelack Topgun son is out of a Maerdy Ozone-sired dam and sold to D T Richards, Measteg.
Making 5800gns was Brynffanigl Duke from Bob and Rhion Roberts. By 17,000gns sire Alsnow Almighty and out of a dam by Doonally New from the couple’s 35 cow herd at Abergele, he was snapped up by R J Roberts, Tywyn.
Selling for 5400gns was the best of the day from David and Louise Barker, Royston. This was for Caylers Defender, a Maerdy Uniroyal son out of a dam by Killadeas Lloyd. He sold to R E Griffiths, Criccieth.
The same vendors sold another, Caylers Dollar, at 5200gns. This was a Doonally New son out of a dam by Killadeas Prunty and sold to S D Powell, Llandrindod Wells.
Just below that mark at 5000gns was Midas DandyThis Gower Armani son from Roger and Drew Coppinger, Edstaton, is out of a Fallaninch dam by Mortimers Tebay and sold to D A Jones, Llanidloes.
Two then sold at 4800gns, the first of which was Tullygarley Attaboy son Montgomery Dewi from Gareth Roberts. This one from a Maerdy Ossie sired cow sold to R Reynoleds, Knighton.
And the second at this level was Esgob Dewi from Gareth Jones. This son of 18,000gns sire Thrunton Virginian out of a dam by Roundhill Rocky sold to E T Bound, Llandidloes.
Selling for 4600gns was the reserve champion from the pre-sale show, Montgomery Druid, again from Mr Roberts. This is by Tullygarley Attaboy and out of a Shrawardine sired dam. He sold to W T Jones, Tywyn.
