Welsh Mule ewes top £205 at Builth sale

Brightwells auctioneers reported a successful Sale of 10,550 Welsh Mule ewes and ewe Lambs on behalf of the Welsh Mule Sheep Breeders’ Association at Builth Wells last week.

The sale was well attended by usual large contingent of buyers from across Wales and the border counties with a number of buyers attending from Hampshire, Somerset, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall with several new purchasers. The sale was blessed with a level trade from start to finish with numerous buyers only starting to buy in the last hour of the sale.

The 3,200 yearling ewes met with a very buoyant trade to average £156.37 up £11 on the year. The top price of £205 was received by H and E Powell, Llwyngwilym selling a pen of 30 ewes to D J Lloyd and Co Cefnbarrach with a total average for their run of 240 ewes of over £198. Next best run was from E G C Davies and Co, Llwyncwtta who sold their four pens at £198, £190, £185 and £185.

The 7,350 ewe lambs met again with a super trade to average £107.31 up £10 on the year. A top price of £158 was received by R G and B M Jones and Son Tymawr selling a pen of 20 ewe lambs to T R Jones, Maescelynog.

The champion pen of lambs went to D I L and E Jones, Llanilltyd which sold for £140 to H and E Powell, Llwyngwilym.
