Upsall centenary sale reaches 3500gns twice
Beef Shorthorns sold to a top price of 3500gns twice at the Centenary celebration sale for Gerald Turton’s Upsall herd, Thirsk, last week.
First to take this top call was Jilt X502 of Upsall, an in-calf heifer by Vortrekker of Upsall and out of Jilt X287 of Upsall, a Trunley Soldier daughter. She sold in-calf to Bilsdale Anson and joins Martin Moore, Stoke Bliss, Tenbury Wells.
Also a this level was Secret Maiden X568 of Upsall, an April 2008 born maiden heifer again by Vortrekker of Upsall. This one is a daughter of Secret Maid of Upsall, a fully American bred ET cow, by the noted sire WHR Sonny. She was bought by Messrs Massie, Blelack, Tarland, for their recently established herd which runs alongside their noted Aberdeen-Angus enterprise.
And the next best call of 3000gns was also shared by two lots, the first of which was Upsall Tessa X450, an August 2006-born Watchman of Upsall daughter out of Tessa Sarah of Upsall, a Loch Awe Lysander daughter. She sold with a bull calf at foot to Derek Steen, Bonchester Bridge, Hawick. The second transaction at this money came for Tessa x496 of Upsall, a two year old in calf heifer by Wallace of Upsall. Buyer of this one was Morrison Farms, a farming division of Morrisons supermarkets, Dumfries House, Cumnock, for their recently established herd.
Then at 2800gns was Upsall Tessa X416, this Watchman of Upsall daughter is out of Tessa Gina of Upsall, a Diamond Xerxes daughter and sold with a bull calf at foot to Messrs Landers, Newton Stewart.
Averages; 34 cows and heifers with calves at foot ÂŁ1627.50, 31 in calf and maiden heifers ÂŁ1733.18 (United Auctions).
