Tight prime cattle entry pushes prices to 221.5p/kg
Another tight entry of prime cattle at Sedgemoor market resulted in continued strong prices, reported auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt.
Top price was 221.5p/kg for a shapely and lean black Limousin steer from Messrs A J Hepper and Son, who sold other lean shapely steers at 208.5p/kg for a Blonde.
A well fleshed Welsh Black steer from Messrs G R and M A Cox achieved 197.5p/kg and 195p/kg was also bid for a smart Limousin steer from Messrs R G and A Pearce.
The best of the steers sold for 200p/kg plus. Better clean types made thehigh 190’s and good steers high 180’s.
Heifers peaked at 220p/kg for a shapely, lean and clean type Charolais from Messrs J E F and K F Stephens, who sold top drawer red Limousins at 216p/kg, 214p/kg, 211.5p/kg, 205.5p/kg, 201p/kg and 198.5p/kg. A very smart red Limousin from Messrs J and J Meaker and Son achieved 211p/kg, when a clean Blonde from the same farm rose to 209.5p/kg.
