Stirling: Beef Shorthorn females sell to 11,000gns

Sales of Beef Shorthorn females topped 11,000gns at the Stirling bull sales on Monday 18 October.

Heading the trade was a pair of 19-month-old heifers from C Lowther, Penrith, Cumbria.

Sale leader at 11,000gns was Lowther Crocus W9, a light roan by the 9,000gns Glenisla Lochan Dubh and out of Lowther Crocus 370. She sold to Evans and Price, Aberystwyth, Ceredigion.

Close behind, at 10,000gns, was the event’s female champion, Lowther Lily W10, a light roan Lowther Konan daughter, out of Lowther Lily 432. She went to Mary Cormack, Canterbury, Kent.

Next, at 6,000gns, was Glenisla Eva Broadhooks P492, a March 2020-born roan out of Glenisla Eva Broadhooks C691 and by the 7,500gns Chapelton Glen Clova.

Heading a draft of heifers from Major JPO Gibb, Blairgowrie, Perthshire, she sold in a joint bid to Thomas Cheetham and Thaymar, Retford, Nottinghamshire.

Two entries shared a 5,000gns call. First to go was Westbroad Yoga 12th, from D Welsh, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire.

A two-year-old in-calf heifer by the 12,000gns Shawhill Leroy, and out of Westbroad Yoga 4th, she went to T Russell and S Bradley Farmer, Farringdon, Oxfordshire.

Westbroad Meadowsweet 10th, another two-year-old in-calf heifer by Leroy and from the same vendor, made 3,500gns to J Common and Son, Lockerbie, Dumfriesshire.

J Common and Son placed a second 5,000gns bid for 17-month-old red heifer Meonside Miss Ramsden P75, the event’s reserve female champion.

She is a daughter of Ballylinney Miss Ramsden and by Meonside King Kong. She was bred and exhibited by D and T Bradley Farmer, Parkgate, Dumfriesshire.

The same vendors took 4,800gns for Meonside Foxglove Tansy P59, a 17-month-old light roan by the 10,000gns Stirling champion, Willingham Kensington, and out of Glenisla Foxglove Tandy H63. She sold to T Russell and S Bradley Farmer.

Next, at 4,000gns, was Balnabroich Nellie, a red in-calf heifer by Meonhill Charlie Chaplin and daughter of Balnabroich Kayia, from Balnabroich Farms, Blairgowrie, Perthshire. She went home with Alex Douglas, Strathaven, Lanarkshire.

The Glenisla draft also included two entries by the 12,000gns Millerston Jamboree. They shared a 3,800gns bid.

The 19-month-old dark roan Glenisla Desiree P496, daughter of Glenisla Desiree E799, went to J and D Haigh, Brechin, Angus.

Glenisla Crocus P508, an 18-month-old light roan out of Glenisla Crocus H21, was bought by Keith Jones, Llandysul, Ceredigion. And Glenisla Desiree P489, a 19-month-old roan Glenisla Artic Storm daughter, made 3,500gns to Evans and Price.

At 3,500gns, Cowford Irania Primrose P50 led a draft from Thistledown Cowford Farm, Stanley, Perthshire. A 20-month-old roan daughter of Coldrochie Irania Rainbow L45, and by Meonhill Legacy, she sold to Aucheneck Estate, Killearn, Glasgow.

Bull sales

Reserve male champion Dunsyre Phineas (P) led the bull trade at 7,200gns. An 18-month-old red by Dunsyre Lord Nelson and out of Dunsyre Meadowsweet 36th, he was sold by the Leggat Farming Partnership, Logiealmond, Perthshire, to J Innes and Sons, Huntly, Aberdeenshire.

Next, at 6,000gns, was the Leonard of Upsall-sired Knockenjig Ptarmigan (P), a 19-month-old red and little white out of Knockenjig Margo M1994 from Alistair Clark and Sons, Cumnock, Ayrshire. He went home to E and T Richardson, Preston, Lancashire.

Champion male, Muiresk Peroni (P), a March 2020-born roan Alvie Galaxy son out of HW Cheerleader (P), from Stuart G Mair and Son, Turriff, Aberdeenshire, secured a 4,500gns bid from C Horrell, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.
