New gimmer record set at 16,000gns at English National Sale

A new centre record price of 16,000gns was paid for a gimmer at the English National Sale, Worcester, this week.

Leading lady was from Stuart Currie’s Beautry flock. This was CUB1501219, a single-born daughter of Loosebeare Voldemort out of a dam by the homebred Beautry Taz.

There was a fierce bidding battle, after an opening bid of 2,000gns, before she was finally knocked down at 16,000gns to Paul Tippetts, Shifnal, Shropshire.

Second-top of the evening at 6,200gns was the pre-sale female champion and reserve overall champion from Robert Cockburn’s Knap flock, CKP1500173.

Offered late in the sale, she is by Tamnamoney Tuborg Gold and out of a dam by Knock Papoose. Buying this one were Geoff and Eifion Morgan, BlaenCar, Sennybridge.

Then making 4,800gns was Stuart Currie’s second of the evening, CUB1501158. This one is again by Loosebeare Voldemort and out of a dam by Beautry Panama. She joined her flock-mate on the trailer to Shifnal, with Paul Tippetts taking this one too.

Following her at 4,200gns was the next from Robert Cockburn, CKP151500182. This Tuborg Gold daughter is out of a Springwell-bred dam by Tullylagan Keystone. She was bought by GJ and JE Williams, Brecon, for the Padest flock.

Ram lambs

Ram lambs peaked at 7,000gns for the male champion and overall champion from the pre-sale show, Sportsmans Yolo, a Strathbogie Whiplash son out of a dam by Cairnam Talisman, which sold with an index of 310. This one from Charlie Boden was the pick of David Chambers for the Twelve Oaks flock, Northamptonshire.

Second-best of the day was a 6,500gns call for John Leith’s Cornmore Yokel. This son of the homebred Cornmore Vidal is out of a Camberwell-bred dam by Camberwell Laird and was knocked down to Paul Johnson for the Corriecravie flock, Stoke-on-Trent.

Charlie Boden was then back in the money, taking 5,800gns for Sportsman’s Yamaha, a member of the first-prize winning group of three by Strathbogie Whiplash and a full ET brother to the pre-sale champion. He sold with an index of 285 and was bought by Henry Ashley and family for the Lincs flock, Boston.

Following that came a brace of 5,000gns calls, with both of these bids made by Stephen Cobbald, Acton, Suffolk, for the Lavenham flock.

The first to head back to Suffolk with Mr Cobbald was one of the fancied lots, Strathbogie Yankee Doodle from Jim Innes. Sired by Millar’s Windbrook, he is out of a dam by Strathbogie Untouchable.

The other bought by Mr Cobbald at this level was the best of the day from Peter Woof’s Stainton flock. Out of a dam by Sportsmans Tremendous, he is by Hexel Wildcard and carries and index of 383.

Shearling rams

Shearling rams sold to a top call of 3,500gns for Whitehart Whistleblower from Nicola Hartwright. This son of Langside The Gaffer is out of a dam by Humeston River Dance and was the pick of MA Jones, Clun, Craven Arms.

The next-best bid of 2,800gns was for another from the same pen, Whitehart Wrestler. He is by Cherryvale Shergar and out of a dam by Hendre Oh Boy, with this one being bought by P and M Miller, Honeybourne, Evesham.

Averages: 81 gimmers, £1,002.69 (up £197.34 on 2015); 185 ram lambs, £976.84 (up £40 on 2015, with 18 more sold); 50 shearlings, £829.50.
