Charolais hit £7,599 average and three big calls at Stirling
A red-letter day was had by Andrew Hornell’s Falleninch herd, which topped the Charolais bull trade at Stirling on Monday (17 October) with a 28,000gns call.
A four-way bid from RA Milne and Sons, Kennieshillock, Elgin; R and N Barclay, Insch, Aberdeenshire; A MacGregor, Allanfauld, Kilsyth; and H Goldie, Ruthwell, Dumfries, secured the trade topper Falleninch Stormzy for 28,000gns.
Stormzy is by the Balmyle Bollinger son Barnsford Ferny and out of Falleninch Orla, a Falleninch Imperator daughter.

He brings growth, milk and a balanced set of figures with strong terminal and self-replacing values.
This price was one of many strong calls as the breed saw a 32% increase in bulls sold on the year.
Averages were back on the 2021 sale, when the Balthayock herd hit 28,000gns and the average rocketed by £1,700.

Next, at 26,000gns, was Rutherston Sonny from Miss A Anderson, Arbirlot, Arbroath. He is by the Balmyle Oscar son Ovill Lennon and out of the Alwent Goldbar daughter Rutherston Jenna.
He sold to a north-east England joint bid of the Campbells, Thrunton, Morpeth, and the Blyths, Elwick, Hartlepool.

Glenericht Superb from the Drysdales, Blairgowrie, then made 20,000gns. He is by the Rosanna Jupiter son Caylers Oxford and out of the Calyers Gladiator daughter Glenericht Jackie.
He was bought by AG Houston of Gretna Green, Dumfriesshire, to join the renowned Gretna herd.

The McCornicks of Boreland, Newton Stewart, were next at 16,000gns.
Ricnick Sonnybill was the only Ricnick entry but impressed with a terminal index of 54 and a self-replacing index of 47, as well as summer show success.
Sonnybill is out of the Whitecliffe Harlequin son Ricnick Lingo and by the Goldies Estate son Harestone Hercules. He caught the eye of a nearby outfit, Shennanton Livestock, Corrybracken, Newton Stewart.
Allanfauld Shogun from A MacGregor was next at 12,500gns. He sold to J More, Kippen, Stirling.
Shogun is an exceptionally long bull with a pedigree boasting Balmyle Jasper and Blelack Fabulous.
He is by Maerdy Norseman and out of Allanfauld Mazurka, and brings a terminal index of 61 and a self-replacing index of 59.
Two then made 12,000gns. The first at this money was Glenernan Sprinter from the Milnes, Waterside, Strathdon. He also boasts Blelack genetics, being by the Blelack Blackberet son Elgin Jagger.
Sprinter is out of the Wesley Galleon daughter Corskellie Lily and has a terminal index of 58 and a self-replacing index of 59.
Matching this call was J McKenzie, Craiglands, Fortrose, who took home the April 2021-born Glenericht Scotsman from the Drysdale’s pen.
He is the second calf by Maerdy Hwre daughter Glenericht Naomi, a strong, milky, young cow. He is also by the Jupiter son Caylers Oxford.
Females to 21,000gns
Lochend females attracted bids of 21,000gns, 11,000gns, two of 10,000gns, 8,500gns and two at 8,000gns, as 31 years of breeding were dispersed by Iain and Rhona Millar, Port of Menteith, Stirlingshire.
Lochend Lightning and her fifth calf, Lochend Thunder – a Swalesmoor Oscar son – went for 21,000gns. Danny Sawrij snapped up the leading outfit to take home to Kedzlie Farm House, Blainslie, Lauderdale.
Lightning is by the Brampton Banker son Oldstone Egbert and out of the Brampton Nacodar daughter Lochend Glitter.
Ayrshire buyers NC Smith and Son, Turnberry, Girvan, paid 11,000gns for Lochend Olga and her heifer calf Lochend Tonka, another by Oscar.
Olga is by the Baggrave Eskimo son Mortimers Highlandfling and out of the Davally Illusion daughter Lochend Madge.
Ravensworth Nicole made 8,500gns and topped the dispersal of the Ravensworth herd of WS Oates, Lobley Hill, Gateshead.
The May 2017-born cow sold in-calf to Goldies Orchard to E Vaughan, Newcastle-under-Lyme.
