Stirling (Perth) Beef Shorthorn bull preview
Unfortunately, it is a little later than I promised, but here is my pick from the Beef Shorthorn bulls on offer at Stirling next week. Once again this is only my pick of the offering, so feel free to add your comments below.
First up for me is a pair of ET bred bulls from Messrs Williamson. Their first is a fully Canadian bred bull Alvie Blue Eyedboy, being by Wolf Willow Major Leroy and out of HC Melba Niam, this one comes with terminal sire index of +13 and a self replacing index of +8. Not the greatest figures in the book, but his full Canadian breeding could be interesting. A
As could his herd mate, Alvie Blaze, this is by Saskvalley Pioneer and out of Prairie Lane Sparkle. Once again the figures aren’t startling, but with foreign parents on both sides he’s one to see anyway.
Next mark in the catalogue for me is Fingask Bigfoot from Willie McGowan. This is by Uppermill Rattle, the same sire as the October sale champion, and is out of Fingask Rosette Topsey, an Uppermill Lifton daughter. He has a TSI of +21 and an SRI of +19. But his calving ease figure is -12, so that’s a slight concern.
Then comes one from Gerald Turton, Barossa of Upsall. This Dunsyre North Star son is out of Nonpareil X291 of Upsall, an Uppermill Recto daughter. He has a TSI of +21 and an SRI of +18, but once again his calving ease figure is in the negative range at -5.
And then comes Glenisla Banqo from Major Gibb. This Fearn Wyish son is out of Glenisla Eva Broadhooks, a Belmore Fuel Injected daughter. This one comes with a TSI of +21 and an SRI of the same value.
The Landers family have one off interest in the form of Cairnsmore Brooke. This Uppermill Michael son is out of Aylward Grace Beauty, a former Perth female champion, while his grandfather also took a Perth championship ticket. He has a TIS of +13 and an SRI of +11.
Some of the highest figures in the line up come next with Glenisla Badenbun. This Fearn Wyvish son is out of Glenisla Margo, another Belmore Fuel Injected sired dam. He has a TSI of +26 and an SRI of +20, but once again his calving ease figure is the wrong side, being -9.4, but he looks like he should be growthy, with a 600day figure of +71, compared to the breed average of +27.
Up next is one from the Massie family of Blelack. This is Blelack Masterpiece, a Blelack Secret Service son out of Blelack Music Box. This dam is by Buffalo Lake Dustbuster,a former champion at Farmfair in America.
Another with a mighty set of numbers behind him is Chapelton Braveheart from Donald Biggar. This Chapelton Typhoon son is out of Chapelton Duchess, giving him a strong mix of USA and Canadian blood. Typhoon is sire of two previous Perth champions, Ambassador and Zodiac. He has a TSI of +29 and an SRI of +21, with good growth figures, coupled with a strong muscle area too.
Carey Combs has an interesting one in the form of Dunsyre Bonaparte. This Dunsyre Wolfstone son is out of Loch Awe Vanue Opal 3 and has a TSI of +22 and an SRI of +25. He should make a great female replacement breeder, with a calving ease figure of +5.4 and a milk figure of +7.
A second Typhoon son from Donald Biggar is next, this is Chapelton Brogie. His dam Chapelton Heathermaid is by Fearn Rhuaridh and he has TSI and SRI figures of +23.
Blelack Rupert, a Blelack Secret Service son out of Blelack Rose, a Shouflers El Bonito daughter might also be one to see, having stood overall champion at Turriff.
And anyone wanting one with a show record in his pedigree could do worse than take a look at Podehole Beefeater from the Horrell family. His dam, Wenmar Madeline N15 was also dam of Podehole Madeline Zeta, breed champion at last year’s Royal Highland, as well as picking up several tickets at more local shows last year. He’s by Tojan of Craigeassie, a Belmore Fuel Injected son. He has a TSI of +16 and an SRI of +13.
Tofts Landlord from Playfair Farms is another with a good pedigree, being similarly bred to last year’s Royal Show champion Tofts Atlas. He’s by the same sire, Tofts Shoufler, and is out of a paternal sister to Atlas’ dam, Turnley Rocky. He has a TSI of +26 and an SRI of +21.
