South Devon Malthouse dispersal tops at 4,600gns

The dispersal of the Malthouse pedigree herd of South Devons on behalf of Mr Clive Salmon at Norwich Market topped at 4,600gns.

 

Sale leader was the stock bull Woodbastwick Habana, which sold for 4,600gns to N McDonald-Doig.

Next best Z Malthouse Hurricane was knocked down for 4,100gns to DL Irving, Thornhill, Dumfriesshire.

 

Females

 

Leading female trade at 2,700gns for a cow and calf outfit; Chipden Garganey 1 by Welland Valley Prince 1, who sold with her heifer calf by Woodbastwick Habana at foot to G Von Opel, Newbury, Berkshire.

Next at 2,550gns was Welland Valley Wendy 9 by Stretchford Dynamic 3, with her heifer calf by AI X Woodbastwick Ibis 6. This outfit went home with N McDonald-Doig, Kings Lynn, Norfolk.

Just shy of this at 2,500gns was Malthouse Mica 5 by Malthouse Harlequin along with her heifer calf by polled bull Z Malthouse Hurricane. Buyer was A Masters, Docking, Norfolk.

 

Heifers

A total of 26 served heifers topped at 2,450gns for Malthouse Coral 9 by Woodbastwick Majestic 7. She sold to J Wharton, Alby, Lincolnshire.  The same buyer also acquired Malthouse Onyx 6 by Woodbastwick Jack for 2,200gns and Malthouse Pearl 8 by Woodbastwick Habana for 2,000gns.

Ten two-year-old maiden heifers were led by X Malthouse Flame 5 (T) at 2,050gns when she sold to Bures Farm Partners, Thetford, Norfolk.

 

Maiden heifers were also in strong demand and topped at 1750gns for Malthouse Countess 3, which sold to Heath Farms, Witton, Norfolk.

 

AVERAGES:  53 cows with calves at foot £2,073; 26 served two year old heifers £1,700, 10 maiden two year old heifers £1,643; 22 yearling heifers £1,360; four bulls, £3,701.
