Sheep 2012 video: Ultrasound lamb back fat scanner demo
A new ultrasound scanner measuring the back fat, growth and muscle in pedigree lambs will help improve the process and ability to measure.
The scanner which is being used by Signet Breeding Services, will replace the old style ultrasound system which has been in place for the last 15 years.
And according to the company’s Rob Paton, it will bring big improvements in measurements. “The new ultrasound scanner produces a better quality image and will take less time to use per lamb. And with the better image, we could look at may be estimating the eye muscle area in future,” he said.
The new machine will be in use by Signet Breeding Services from next year. View the video from Sheep 2012 about how it works.
