Sedgemoor sees strong entry of dairy cows and heifers

Greenslade Taylor Hunt have reported another very large entry of 120 dairy cows and heifers at Sedgemoor Market at the weekend.

Sale goers witnessed an excellent trade with extra buyers in attendance from the North.  Cows were particularly in demand with six heifers and a cow selling over £1,900 to £2,150 for a pedigree heifer from Messrs JG Summerhayes & Son. 

Others sold to £1,950 for Messrs HM Heywood & Sons, £1,940 twice for Mr B Rose & Son and    John & Heather Snook.  £1,920 for Messrs J R and J E Willcox & Son and Mr G Morgan.

Cows also went to £1,950 for first time consigners, Mr P E King from Bristol.  Others went to £1,730 and £1,720 for John & Heather Snook as well as £1,700 for Messrs HM Heywood and Son. 

In calf heifer sold to £1170 for Mr S H Ham.  In calf cows to £1,100 (2^nd) Mr MG Walters, Bruton.  Bulling heifers to £880 twice to average £838 and calves to £280 twice.

There was a smaller mixed quality entry of 124 suckler cows, but the sale saw another very bright trade, especially for the better quality units.

The highlight of the day was a £4,000 call for a pedigree Limousin bull from Mr D K Wheeler.  In the cow and calf section a quality dispersal sale of pedigree Aberdeen Angus cows and calves from Mr W J Wetherill sold to £1,470 and £1,400. 

A grand consignment from Messrs White and Son from Bristol saw Charolais cows with Charolais calves to £1,450 and British Blue cows and calves to £1,380.  A Hereford cow with Limousin steer calf at foot sold to £1,350 for Mr P M Willis. 

A Limousin cow and calves to £1,280 Messrs NJ & PA Owen.  Simmental cow with a heifer calf to £1,220 Messrs N & KA Williams.  Blondes to £1,210 Messrs White and Son.  And a good selection of in calf Saler cows saw a top of £1,110 and £970 for Mr A J Legg.
