Yorkshire Farmhouse Eggs named largest free-range producer

Yorkshire Farmhouse Eggs has become the UK’s largest producer and packer of free range only eggs, according to the latest figures from the BEIC.

The company said its recent £6m investment in state-of-art production and packing systems at two of their sites has supported its growth.

The family-owned business said it now plans to continue its expansion into 2012/13, with further packing and production capabilities at their third site in Sussex.

“Being the UK’s largest free-range only producer is a fantastic achievement and I can only hope that we can encourage more people to consider buying free-range eggs.”

Director Adrian Potter said the company prided itself on the fact they have maintained high welfare standards and have only ever produced free-range.

He added: “Being the UK’s largest free-range only producer is a fantastic achievement and I can only hope that we can encourage more people to consider buying free-range eggs.”

In 2011 free range took over 50% of the market for the first time. But since then free range egg sales have declined 5% in favour of colony, as a result of the recession.
